Cactus Heart A Phoenix Cold Case Book 2 eBook Jon Talton
I've read most of the David Mapstone mysteries and really enjoyed them. Talton has a bittersweet sense of Arizona history and has just enough cynicism to keep one rooted in the proper perspective of how the territory was founded. That and his ability to keep one on the edge of one's seat makes for a very good fast moving novel. Living in the Phoenix area helps too. That aside, he writes well and the book does not drag. His characters are real and believable. I especially like the egghead vs the sometimes uncouth behavior of his fellow officers I recommend this book, as well as his others, to anyone who likes good detective fiction.Product details

Cactus Heart A Phoenix Cold Case Book 2 eBook Jon Talton Reviews
Cactus heart was a good story but the author has the protagonist living in a place the he always is complaing about, like it or leave it I want to yel at him.
If you love a good crime story and have ever lived in Phoenix, visited Phoenix, or had an interest in Phoenix, this book is for you! After reading the first book in the series, I purchased the remaining 5 in the series and read them in 4 days. I have not had a series excite me this much since discovering Harry Bosch. While working in a research capacity to solve cold cases, David Mapstone describes the city, through places, history, and people. His descriptions of the valley allowed me to "see" what he saw. His characters were alive and interesting. I hope Mr. Talton continues to add more books to this series.
This is elegant writing, and a gripping read, even though it is a little improbable that a failed history professor would find a home with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Department. It is confusing, however. Is this a mystery, a police procedural, or a discourse on the protagonist's amorous acrobatics?
I liked it, and have purchased two more.
Enjoyed the entire series
I really enjoy reading the David Mapstone mysteries. Cactus Heart was just as good and riveting as the previous books I have read. The story keeps you turning the pages to see what happens next. I am always curious to see what happens with David and Lindsey's relationship. Also, I live in Tucson, Arizona and appreciate all the history about the Phoenix area that the author makes a part of the stories.
If you like a good mystery this is for you. Interesting characters, it helps if you have read some of this series though. It will give you a brief background if you haven't but not all of the twists and turns in the characters past. I also found it interesting because I have been to Phoenix and can relate to the places and geography....something I really enjoy. Read the others in the series first if you can, I like to start at the beginning, if not enjoy this one.
Cactus Heart is an epic work of full literature quality. Deputy Mapstone, PhD. Takes us into an adventure worthy of Arthur Conan Doyle, and seals the deal with an ending worthy of Albert Camus. The Shakespearean tragedy of murdered twin sons is complicated in a will intended to protecting secrets, but is discovered by more deeper secrets. This book will stay with you. Read after thanksgiving for maximum effect
